The sequel to one of the phenomena of the moment, Among Us 2, was announced just 36 days ago, yet the game has already been cancelled. This was announced by the developers themselves, who have decided to focus on supporting the original title.
In a blog post on the Among Us website, PuffballsUnited, one of the co-creators of the game, writes that the surge in popularity of the game, which has grown significantly in recent weeks, has made it clear to the developers that the idea of abandoning Among Us to focus on a sequel was not a great move, and therefore they decided to backtrack:
The US developers have had several long discussions about what we want to do with the game. When do we stop working on Among Us 1? What content goes in Among Us 2? The main reason we’re shooting for a sequel is because Among Us 1’s codebase is so outdated and not built to support adding that much new content. However, seeing how many people are enjoying Among Us 1 really makes us want to be able to support the game and take it to the next level. We have decided to cancel Among Us 2 and instead focus on improving Among Us 1. All the content we had planned for Among Us 2 will go to Among Us 1 instead. This is probably the most difficult choice because it means delving into the core code of the game and reworking different parts of it. We have a ton of stuff planned and are excited to bring new content to everyone as you continue to enjoy it!
In addition to canceling the sequel, Innersloth has announced some features that are coming to Among Us. These features include adding a new stage, troubleshooting the server, adding a friends section and the addition of colorblind support.
We just have to wait to find out what awaits the future of Among Us, which will therefore now be used as a long-lasting platform and which will soon be enriched with new content.
