Ubisoft announces that Discovery Tour: Viking Agean educational experience that will allow you to explore and interact with the history and culture of the world of the Viking Age, will be available on October 19th.

Discovery Tour: Viking Age it will be free for all owners of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, available on the same platforms as the main game. The standalone PC version of Discovery Tour: Viking Age will be available via Ubisoft Connect and the Epic Games Store for € 19.99. For the first time ever, Discovery Tour: Viking Age will be available as a standalone on Stadia, Luna, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S | X in early 2022.

Following the line of Discovery Tour: Ancient Egypt and Discovery Tour: Ancient Greece, the new chapter of the educational expansions of Assassin’s Creed will allow you to learn more about the history and traditions of the Vikings. Designed in collaboration with historians and archaeologists, this interactive experience is an immersive immersion into the Viking Age that took place in 9th-century Norway and England.

For this new chapter, the Ubisoft Montreal development team has changed the formula to make the experience even more fun and educational. Discovery Tour: Viking Age puts storytelling and storytelling at the center of the experience: you will step into the shoes of Viking and Anglo-Saxon characters of the time experiencing their small and large exploits. During their memorable adventures, you will interact with the surrounding world and its inhabitants by discovering a lot of information and anecdotes of the time.

Since its inception, the Discovery Tour team has always worked with many partners. The immersive approach of the Discovery Tour, the knowledge of experts and historians, and the presence of real artifacts from the collections of the partners give life to many collaborations and projects. Partner museums that have contributed their images for Discovery Tour: Viking Age include:

  • Hampshire Cultural Trust (HCT) is Ubisoft’s lead partner for Discovery Tour: Viking Age, which is managing 23 museums and arts attractions in Hampshire and handling 2.5 million items related to Hampshire’s rich international heritage. The Discovery Tour offers a unique insight into the lives of the common people of Winchester and the surrounding area thanks to a selection of rare items including the excellent Winchester Reliquary, the only sacred relic of the period on British soil. In addition to the collaboration with Discovery Tour: Viking Age, the strategic partnership between Ubisoft and HCT will revive history, in the spring of 2022 in Winchester, thanks to a unique and immersive cultural experience that will merge action and projection of videos, storytelling and objects of the collections, completing the experience with a Winchester Augmented Reality tour, in the folklore of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, produced by Sugar Creative, one of the UK’s leading creative studios.
  • There British Library à the national library of the United Kingdom. It boasts a huge collection of objects, including artifacts from any historical era. A collaboration with the British Library was crucial for Ubisoft to give the best access to medieval manuscripts and illustrations related to the Viking era.
  • There Grand Palais photo agency is a public industrial and commercial institution under the authority of the French Ministry of Culture. He is officially responsible for promoting the collections of French national museums. Each year he captures more than 20,000 new shots on-site to further expand the agency’s collection, which is available online. They have been an essential partner since the very first Discovery Tour. Their vast collections have been instrumental in supporting Ubisoft’s approach to Discovery Tour: Viking Age, allowing players to admire items such as the Bayeux Tapestry or Sutton’s Helmet. Hoo.
  • The York Archaeological Trust directs the Jorvik Viking Center in the United Kingdom, which has studied the excavations of the Coppergate in York making them accessible to all. The Discovery Tour allowed Ubisoft to showcase some of these finds with a new medium, adding authentic details from that period and showing the importance of the city, during the Viking Age, which served as a commercial, religious and political center.
  • The National Museum of Denmark, Nationalmuseet, consists of a network of 20 museums across the country with a unique collection of objects covering much of Danish history. Displaying the artifacts from the National Museum added extra depth to the Discovery Tour, demonstrating incredible craftsmanship and aesthetic skills and giving the opportunity to understand how reputation, family and social connections were vital elements of that society.
  • The Preston Park Museum & Grounds is the local museum of the Stockton-on-Tees district which gave the Discovery Tour team the unique opportunity to highlight two key elements of the Viking era: the new Anglo-Scandinavian culture that emerged from funerary art and one of the only two Viking helmets almost intact in the world, the Helmet of Yarm. The Museum will host a special traveling Viking exhibit in early 2022 with events that will complement the Discovery Tour: Viking Age.
