Call of Duty: Vanguard Open Alpha has been officially announced, and will offer players the chance to try out Champion Hill mode first.
After last week’s reveal, the expected details regarding the Open Alpha version of Call of Duty: Vanguardthe new game in the series developed by Sledgehammer Games and a few other Activision studios – including Treyarch, who will take care of the Zombies mode and the return of the Dark Aether Story.
Most of the leaks in recent days have been confirmed by Activision’s official announcement, but let’s see in more detail what awaits us in this first trial version of the game.
Vanguard Alpha mode
Vanguard’s Alpha will allow us to try the mode for the first time Champion Hillwhich debuts in the new game in the series as a reinvention of the Battle mode inaugurated in Modern Warfare.
Champion Hill mode sees players compete in a series of rounds to be the last team standing. Champion Hill will feature 2v2 or 3v3 options, blending elements of Battle Royale, Gunfight and more into a new experience.
The mode features teams that compete in 4 different maps. As players take out other teams, they continue to climb the mode leaderboard until there is only one team standing.
Weight of the Alpha
Alpha’s leaked list via PlayStationSize states that the weight of the version Alpha is around 20GB on PlayStation 5, so you may need to free up some space before starting the download. Also, size may vary by region and on PlayStation 4.

Dates and pre-downloads
The Alpha of Call of Duty: Vanguard, as already happened for Black Ops Cold War and Modern Warfare, it will be exclusive to PlayStation players, on both PS4 and PS5. The partnership between Activision and Sony therefore continues, and we can therefore also expect that Vanguard will have an exclusive mode for a year compared to other platforms – for Modern Warfare in 2019 it was the Survival mode, while on BOCW it was the turn of Carnage as an exclusive mode. .
Access to the Alpha is totally free, and no full game pre-order is required. Likewise, PlayStation Plus membership is not required to play.
PS4 and PS5 players will be able to download Vanguard starting tomorrow, 23 Augustat 12:00 Italian time.
Here’s how to download the Vanguard Alpha when it’s available:
- Open the PlayStation Store on PS5 or PS4
- Search for “Call of Duty: Vanguard Alpha”
- Select Vanguard Alpha
- click on “Download”
- Launch Vanguard from the downloads screen or from your home page
Vanguard’s Alpha will be active on PS5 and PS4 from Friday 27 August at 19:00 Italian time, and will end at the same time on Sunday 29 August.
