Despite the optimism expressed during last spring, CD Projekt Red she is no longer sure about the release of the Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 next-gen upgradeso much so that the release in 2021 is no longer taken for granted.
Cyberpunk 2077 It took months and months to regain its reputation and lost ground, and just a few months ago the game, originally released in December 2020, was back available for purchase on the PS Store. Nevertheless, the sales of the latest colossal production of the Polish software house have not risen as hoped, with many players who have decided to wait for the next-gen upgrade of Cyberpunk 2077 to be able to enjoy it on PS5 and Xbox Series X | S. Meanwhile, 160 employees are working on the game’s first major DLC, which promises to be a very important production.
Likewise, many users are also waiting for the return of the The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt complete with DLC, which will be re-proposed on the current generation consoles with an upgrade that will take advantage of its features. The problem is that if until a few hours ago the news pointed towards a release of these upgrades by the end of 2021, now the developers are no longer so sure.
CD Projekt Red held a new meeting with investors, stating, in no uncertain terms, that “Can not say with full certainty” that its highly anticipated updates of Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 for current-generation consoles will launch this year. These are statements which, as mentioned, clash with what was declared by CDPR until recently, and which leave no room for many interpretations.
Both editions are highly anticipated. The Witcher 3 upgrade promises the addition of ray tracing and faster loading timeswhile the new version of Cyberpunk 2077, after the numerous problems encountered on PS4 and Xbox One, is highly anticipated by all players who have decided to postpone the purchase of the game to its most performing iteration.
The roadmap review for Cyberpunk 2077 and the numerous problems encountered since the end of last year, however, must have led CDPR to modify its projects in the running.
Officially, both updates are still slated for release by the end of 2021, but business development SVP Michał Nowakowski admitted to investors during CD Projekt’s H1 2021 results call, that while the studio is still aiming to roll out the upgrade this year, “He cannot say with full certainty that the production program will not change”.
“The goal is to release the next generation version of Cyberpunk 2077 by the end of the year”Nowakowski explained. “At the same time, bearing in mind the lessons we have learned over the past year and taking into account that this project is still under development, we cannot say with absolute certainty that the production schedule will not change.”
That of The Witcher 3 update is a similar story, despite the upgrade being handled by Saber Interactive. Nowakowski has indeed explained that the development of such content “Is in progress, but we cannot be absolutely certain that the release schedule will not change.”
