All Game News

Sledgehammer Games Multiplayer Creative Director Greg Reisdorf has confirmed that Call of Duty: Vanguard will include as many as 20 multiplayer maps when the game launches in the fall, more precisely on November 5th.

Last night there was the big reveal of COD Vanguardnew video game in the Activision series developed by Sledgehammer in collaboration with other studios, including Treyarch who will take care of the Zombies mode of which we have already had some interesting details.

With the Battle of Verdansk event on Warzone, Activision released the first official Vanguard trailer, which was then followed by a long series of information regarding the game.

Among these, as we discover thanks to the first words of the developers, there are also some juicy details concerning the multiplayer sector, which in the new Sledgehammer title promises to revolutionize, at least in part, those that are the classic cornerstones of the COD series.

During a first press conference held for the reveal of VanguardReisdorf revealed that gameplay was the main focus for the team as it developed its multiplayer mode and, as part of that, they will be featured well 20 maps for multiplayer at launch.

16 of these maps will be for the game’s main 6v6 multiplayer mode, which will take place in locations around the world, including Europe, North Africa and the Soviet Union, locations that are also found in the game’s campaign.

This is something of a record for the series, with a notable increase over previous titles. Just think that Black Ops Cold War, launched last fall, contained only 8 maps for classic multiplayer at the release. To find another game in the series with 16 maps coming out, we even have to go back to 2009 with the legendary Modern Warfare 2 from Infinity Ward.

The remaining four maps are instead designed for the new mode Champion Hill by Vanguard, which has been described as a mix of “battle royale with Gunfight-style gameplay”. We can assume that it will be a mode therefore very similar to the one already seen in Modern Warfare, in which, in the 2v2 Clash maps, players had to collect their equipment from the ground.

Furthermore, among the most interesting features to mention there is the destructibility of environments. Sledgehammer Games has in fact claimed to have worked hard to bring this breath of fresh air into the world of Call of Duty, even if we do not expect dynamic levels on a par with what happens for the Battlefield series. However, the developers have stated that players will be able to damage parts of the map and help change their physiognomy, creating new lines of fire and surprising rivals.

Call of Duty: Vanguard will be released on November 5th on PS5, Xbox Series X | S, PS4, Xbox One and PC.
