Dead Island 2 it was announced nearly 7 years ago, and there is still no record of the game today. It goes without saying that something, more than something, has gone wrong in development, if we then think that the software houses working on the game have changed more than once.
Dambusters Studiosfor example, the study that was most recently associated with Dead Island 2, has been in the press for years, despite the publisher Deep Silver continues to reiterate that development continues and that we will soon have information. This information seems close indeed, and it would be a cold shower for old-gen PlayStation 4 and Xbox One users.
As pointed out by the user’s tweets MauroNLa new worklist from Dambusters indicates that the studio is working on a AAA title that is indicated coming to next generation consoles and PC. You could certainly point out that the aforementioned Dead Island 2 is not mentioned in that job posting, but it is the only game referenced in other announcements by the same software house, and, as far as we know, it is the only one. game that Dambusters is working on.

Previous Dambusters job announcements talked about a current (now past) and new generation console game in development, but apparently things have changed. After the announcement in 2014, Dead Island 2 has evidently undergone the alternation of multiple studios and the release of the next generation consoles, namely PS5 and Xbox Series X | S, which may have convinced the publisher to move the project on the most performing systems.
In light of these potential revelations, it therefore appears that the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Dead Island 2 have been shelved, but that does not mean that the game is near. Considering that Dambusters took over the project in 2019, starting (or almost) from scratch, Dead Island 2 could probably arrive only in the course of 2022, if not even beyond.
