Death Stranding it was a remarkable start for Kojima Productions. The software house founded by Hideo Kojima in 2015 has in fact announced that the game, in March of this year, has exceeded 5 million copies sold between PS4 and PC.
Talking with GamesIndustry.bizJay Boor, head of publishing at Kojima Productions, said the game behaved “good enough” and the studio is optimistic about the release of the Director’s Cut version on PlayStation 5 in September, which will introduce a lot of new content compared to the original 2019 release.
“Since Death Stranding is the first title developed by Kojima Productions, from a sales point of view, it performed quite well”Boor said. “As of March 2021, Death Stranding has sold over five million units around the world on PlayStation 4 and PC ”.
As revealed last month, the upcoming Director’s Cut isn’t limited to some visual enhancements, with new features, weapons and modes. The central feature of the game’s “social thread” has also been improved, obviously being one of the most important dynamics within the game.
The main component of Death Stranding is its Social Strand System, a unique asynchronous multiplayer feature that allows players to connect with other players from around the world through a variety of in-game actions. The Director’s Cut will expand on this system and we will be sharing more about this in the weeks to come.
Boor further said that Kojima Productions’ core team hasn’t changed significantly since the game’s launch, although the way they operate has changed, at least in part.
“Although we have expanded slightly in some areas of operations, our team overall has remained relatively the same in terms of actual size.”Boor said. “In terms of how we operate, however, the study has changed significantly, as the pandemic has brought many unforeseen challenges. Like everyone else, we have to constantly adapt and watch how we continue to work and build things safely ”.
