We have known for a few days that God of War II Ragnarok is officially in development, and of course player hype is already sky high.
Sony Santa Monica, at the end of last week’s PS5 presentation event, unveiled the announcement of the PS5 with a very short teaser trailer God of War sequelaccompanied by a few but significant words: “Ragnarok is coming”or “Ragnarok is coming”.
As fans of Nordic mythology well know, Ragnarok is what we could summarize as a sort of apocalypse, an epochal clash between the forces of light, led by Odin of Asgard, and those of darkness under the control of Surtur, the demon of Muspellsheimr.
As already happened on the occasion of the announcement of the previous title, God of War 2 Ragnarok (the title is still tentative) was shown with the game’s logo, which has some Norse runes on it.
After a few days of research by the always active and curious community, fans have once again managed to discover the meaning of these runes, which in fact may seem quite obvious now that we have proof.
As you can see from the post on Reddit which we leave below, the initials of the runes in fact, starting from the symbol at the bottom center and proceeding clockwise, make up the word RAGNAROKagain seen as a true prophecy of what awaits Kratos and Atreus on their journey now that they have defeated Baldur and unleashed the fury of Thor and the other Norse gods.
In particular, here is the meaning of the runes in clockwise order on the game logo:
- Raidho
- Ansux
- Gebo
- Nauthiz
- Ansux
- Raidho
- Othala
- Kenaz
Furthermore, each of them is linked to a particular mythological figure, as in the case of Nauthiz (Heimdall) and Othala (Tyr). However, the goddess most “represented” by these runes is the well-known one Freyawhich has already played an important role in God of War and which, in light of those events, seems to have an even more crucial purpose in the course of this sequel.
Might be obvious, but the runes in the title card for the God of War reveal spell ‘Ragnarok’ from GamingDetails
Have you already played God of War? Naturally we advise you to retrieve it as soon as possible, if you have not yet done so.
God of War 2 Ragnarok is scheduled for 2021exclusively on PlayStation 5.
