We haven’t heard of anymore Gran Turismo 7 after the official reveal of last summer, but the PS5 exclusive returns to be heard on our pages thanks to an interview by Kazunori Yamauchi for Octane Japan.

The boss of Polyphony Digitaltoday strictly committed to completing the development of the new chapter of the racing series, confirmed that GT7 will be a traditional chapter of Gran Turismoeven if the studio will not fail to enter some characteristic elements of GT Sport that have been appreciated by the community.

Making a comparison with the past, Yamauchi says that the new game will come very close to the philosophy of the original Gran Turismo until the fourth chapter, but inheriting some features of the game for PS4:

While inheriting elements like the FIA championship made in Sport, Gran Turismo 7 will revert to the original idea of whole games like Chapters 1-4 and provide the best Gran Turismo experience to date.

One of the questions posed to the Polyphony boss then referred to the identity of Gran Turismo and its future. Yamauchi talked about the influence that Japanese car culture has had on the original Gran Turismo and how it was instrumental in bringing to life what is one of the most iconic series in the history of video game racing:

I myself grew up as an auto enthusiast surrounded by the influence of Japanese car manufacturers and the broadcast of the automotive media, and this is also the driving force behind my production. Although the title has been played around the world, I have never forgotten that it originated in Japan, and now I feel a responsibility and a mission to inherit Japanese automotive culture.

Gran Turismo 7 will therefore be a bridge between the past, the present and the future of the popular PlayStation franchise.

The game does not yet have a release date, but according to the latest information released by Sony GT7 it will be available by the end of 2021, obviously as an exclusive PlayStation 5.
