There really is no peace for Skull & BonesUbisoft’s pirate-themed game that was announced almost 4 years ago.
The French publisher, speaking to investors, said in its latest earnings report that the game has been postponed again, and that it will definitely not arrive in 2021.
There new Skull & Bones release window was set for the fiscal year 2022, which runs from 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2023. This does not mean that the game will certainly arrive in the first half of 2022, but that it could also be expected until the spring of the following year.
This is just the latest of the many delays accumulated by Skull & Bones, but this is not as surprising an announcement as some might think. In September 2020, as we reported here, Ubisoft confirmed that its developers were working on one “New vision” for the game, after some reports released at the time that spoke of a restructuring of the Skull & Bones concept in favor of a model more similar to that of Fortnite.
“Many of you have wondered why we had to postpone our launch. The answer is that we simply needed more time “said Elisabeth Pellen, creative director of Skull & Bones. “We dreamed of something bigger for Skull & Bones, and those ambitions naturally came with bigger challenges.”
The game is still in development at Ubisoft Singapore, the studio behind the naval combat sequences for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.
Ubisoft also announced a TV series inspired by Skull & Bonesbut also stated that the show’s development will not interfere with the production of the game.
