Square Enix denied reports that the Japanese firm was at the center of a possible acquisition, responding to news that has spread recently.
A few hours ago, Bloomberg Japan hto reported that several interested parties were ready to make an offer to acquire the massive Japanese company, citing “Two bank officials familiar with the situation”. News of an acquisition seemed solid enough that Square Enix’s shares are increased by 13.8% on the Tokyo Stock Exchange earlier today.
A few hours later, Square silenced such rumors with an official statement. No, the Final Fantasy company is not for sale and no one has come forward with an offer.
We do not consider the sale of the company or any part of its business, nor have we received any offers from any third party to acquire the company or any part of its business.
The news of a possible acquisition of Square Enix, especially after what happened between Microsoft and Bethesda, would no longer be so surprising. The company, which has historical IPs such as Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts, Tomb Raider and many others, it could be tempting to many companies wishing to enrich their offer.
For the moment, however, Square Enix remains firmly in place.
