Phil Spencerthe Xbox boss, has ambitious plans for StarfieldBethesda’s newest sci-fi video game coming this fall.
Starfield is the next RPG from the studio behind Fallout 4 and the critically acclaimed The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrima game that has sold over 30 million copies since its release in 2011. Starfield will also be Bethesda’s first new IP in 25 years.
However, unlike the company’s previous successes in the Elder Scrolls and Fallout series, the science fiction game will not be released for PlayStation consoles, this after Microsoft bought ZeniMax Media (and consequently Bethesda) for $ 7.5 billion in deciding. then to make the company’s games Xbox exclusive.
Starfield, which will also be launched on PC, will have the opportunity to debut through the service Xbox Game Pass since day one set for 11 November 2022. Phil Spencer has stated that he hopes that such a move can make Starfield the most played Bethesda game everafter already titles such as Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 5 have benefited from the Game Pass treatment by registering record numbers for the various franchises:
I love the stats from Forza 5 and Halo … I love how many people have played Psychonauts 2 compared to Psychonauts 1. So when I look at teams, when Todd and I talk about Starfield, it’s: ‘How can we make sure this is Todd Howard’s most played game ever?’
Spencer then added some thoughts on the recent releases of Halo and Forza: “These are the most played games in those franchises because we’ve made them available on more screens than we’ve ever made, across more business models than we’ve ever made available.”
We do not find it hard to believe that Starfield could reach this milestone, as well as the next games of Bethesda and, why not, also of Activision. The future Call of Duty, for example, will be released both on PlayStation thanks to an agreement between Microsoft and Sony, and on Xbox Game Pass, and this will guarantee an impressive number of players if we consider the figures that the franchise already has today.
