In a long press release that we leave you in full below, Capcom officially kicks off the celebrations for the fifth anniversary of Street Fighter V, the fighting game released in 2016 on PS4, Xbox One and PC. The celebrations include the arrival of a new character, Dan Hibiki, as well as a series of content including surprises for all players.
A little over five years ago, Street Fighter V was released for fighting game fans all over the world. Since then, the game has continued to grow and evolve to its full, action-packed, current power. Starting today, the historic fifth and final season of Street Fighter V has officially begun with the release of the new character, Dan Hibiki, and also through free content for all PlayStation 4 and Steam players. A new “V-Shift” battle mechanic, a new training phase and an updated battle balance for all playable characters are included.
Released today, Dan Hibiki kicks off Street Fighter V Season 5 in style with his signature fighting and taunt techniques, proclaiming himself “Saikyo Master”. A pillar of the Street Fighter Alpha series, who last appeared in Street Fighter IV, Dan Hibiki is a training partner of Ryu and Ken. He thinks he can teach anyone who doesn’t hold back a lesson. Dan can now be added to the Street Fighter V roster via the Season 5 Character Pass or via the Season 5 Premium Pass. He Can also be acquired separately.
A powerful battle mechanic is also available today via a free update for all Street Fighter V players: “V-Shift” provides players with completely new defensive options and strategies. When timed correctly, V-Shift allows only one bar of V-Gauge to be consumed and allows players to perform a completely invincible backdash that slows down time for a short time, helping fighters plan their counterattacks better. In addition, all players can now acquire a new training phase called “The Grid Alternative” for free, as well as an updated battle balance for all playable characters, adding even more depth of play and improvements to the combat system.
Looking to the future of Season 5, in Street Fighter V: Champion Edition four more characters will arrive: Rose (spring 2021), Gold (summer 2021), Akira (summer 2021) and a fifth and final character not yet announced (autumn 2021). In total, 26 new costumes and two new internships are also planned for Season 5, including an internship for Rose (Spring 2021) and an internship for Akira (Summer 2021).
To make the most of the new characters and their content, two different Street Fighter V Season 5 passes are now available: the Season 5 Character Pass and the Season 5 Premium Pass. Here’s a rundown of all the content included in each Season 5 Pass:

Eleven is a shapeshifter who can randomly morph into any character currently owned in Street Fighter V. The imitated character will retain Eleven’s color scheme, while continuing to behave exactly like the character he copied.
