An official announcement from Activision relating to Vicarious Visionshas unleashed a resounding rumor that has already made more than one nostalgic player jump from his seat.
A few hours ago, the American giant announced that Vicarious Visions, the software house responsible for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, was absorbed by Blizzard, and will be in charge of supporting the company’s future projects. A Bloomberg report, just following the news, drops the bomb: Vicarious Vision is working on the remake of Diablo 2.
According to the report in questionVicarious Visions has in fact supported Blizzard Team 3 for several months, which in turn is now working on Diablo IV, in the development of the remake of Diablo II, the RPG originally released in 2000 and arguably the most popular of the entire franchise.
The story of the Diablo II remake, according to the report, has been troubled. Originally this project was in the hands of Team 1 of Blizzard, the same who was responsible for the thud of Warcraft III: Reforged. Blizzard then dissolved the studio, with employees being redeployed to other areas of the company, and the remake ended up in the hands of Team 3.
Upon hearing the news of the absorption into Blizzard, players were overwhelmed with concern that Vicarious Visions was destined to disappear, ending up dealing with massive Blizzard franchises like World of Warcraft and Overwatch. Fortunately this will not be the case, and indeed the talent of Vicarious Visions, which has already emerged in recent years, will have the opportunity to express itself again in the future.
