Despite for the first time in 7 years GTA 5 finished out of the top 20 of the best sellers in 2020, the Rockstar Games blockbuster is still an unstoppable money machine today.
Waiting to learn more about the new remastered version for next-gen consoles, which according to rumors could take advantage of the game engine of Red Dead Redemption II to offer a substantial update to the game, the new data on GTA Online speaks of a title that is still in great shape todayand that the developers intend to exploit for a long time to come.
A little over a month ago it was launched The Cayo Perico Heista new robbery complete with an unprecedented visitable area that has been described by Rockstar itself as the largest expansion in the history of GTA 5. We don’t find it hard to believe it: the contents included for the multiplayer sector are really a lot, and we must admit that GTA V continues to amaze even after 7 and more years.
But how did things go for Rockstar Games’ pockets with the launch of Cayo Perico? Very, very well, according to what was reported by SuperDataResarch.
The analysts of the portal analyzed some data from last December year of video games, outlining sometimes unpredictable scenarios. December 2020 was for example the year of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red’s game that had over 10 million digital copies sold, and was the biggest digital launch of a video game of all time. A commercial success that, however, collided with the numerous problems that the game went through, not least the patch published yesterday which brought a new and fearsome bug.
Rockstar Games, on the other hand, can only celebrate the achievements. According to analysts, with the launch of The Cayo Perico Heist there was not only a clear increase in active users on GTA Online (+ 46% compared to November), but also a record: December has in fact marked the highest monthly digital revenue ever for the blockbuster originally released in 2013.
Figures that have not allowed GTA 5 to conquer the peaks of the annual rankings of 2020, but let’s not forget, however, that we are talking about a game that carries almost 7 and a half years of activity on its shoulders, and that has been repeated on multiple platforms. Once again, an excellent result for Rockstar Games, which thanks to these numbers can evidently take all the time necessary to work on GTA 6 without haste – something that even users have incredibly asked, after the Cyberpunk 2077 case.
